Matt was recently promoted....and demoted right afterwards. I've been very proud of his work as the 1SG for his unit. They fought to keep him in the position as long as possible (they were hoping he would be there through the next deployment) But sadly, even though he was recently promoted to SFC, he was not allowed to keep the job and he handed the reigns over to a new 1SG.
It's been a strange existance. His chain of Command has placed a lot of faith in him and treated him with a great deal of respect befitting his position, but as an E-6 in an E-8 job, he did get quite a few strange looks. And regardless of the wishes of the CO, BN and Brigade, Army policy dictates that a newly promoted E-7 can not be the senior NCO in a unit forever.
So I had a plaque with his unit coin made for him. It's another bit of Army that will now hang around the house (since he doesn't have an office anymore) but I can live with that.
He still hasn't decided where he wants to go next. I think he is leaning towards staying with the unit so that he can deploy with the soldiers he has trained, but he may opt to take another position in the brigade.
Whatever he does, I'm sure he will continue to impress the leaders and soldiers that he works with. I'll be proud of him because he is just that kind of amazing guy.
"And there is no charge for awesomeness...."

ReplyDeleteHey Dana... I think that's great that you are doing photography now. Do you have a studio or are you just working from home for the time being? Fun to see you in the blogging world. It's been a long time since I have talked to you.
